These data represent the number of unique children with at least one substantiated maltreatment finding at the conclusion of a Child Protective Services (CPS) Initial Assessment during the year.
The rate represents the count of unique children with at least one substantiated maltreatment finding during the year, per 1,000 children ages birth to 17 in the state or county. This rate is calculated by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families and published in its annual reports.
These data may have been influenced by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, starting in 2020.
Data are from the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families' annual Wisconsin Child Abuse and Neglect Report.
