Kindergarten Readiness Assessment- Literacy- English (2025–2026)

Definition

Established skills: percentage of students at this level who demonstrated the early literacy skills that support learning
based on Maryland’s kindergarten learning standards. They are ready to build on these skills
and take on new challenges throughout the year.
In Early Literacy, students at this level may recognize most upper and lowercase letters, match
some letters to sounds, combine and break apart parts of spoken words, and understand basic
story elements (e.g., characters and events). They may also retell simple stories.
