ISO 3166-3 Historic Countries

This dataset lists countries and territories that previously held ISO 3166-1 identifiers but have since been withdrawn (e.g. due to dissolution, renaming, or unification).

The dataset is compiled from open reference sources via the pycountry library and supports historical analysis and longitudinal studies where country identifiers change over time.
