Definition

Individuals of all ages living at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Data Source

The U.S. Census Bureau, Small Area Estimates Branch is used for percise annual poverty estimates.  For similar county level data, the ACS 5 year estimates can be used althought it is advised not to compare across indicators over time.

Notes

In 2026, the U.S. Census Bureau defined the poverty level as a combined annual income of roughly $33,000 for a family of four.

Bedford City ended its independent city status as of July 1, 2013.  Data for Bedford City is included in Bedford County for 2014 and beyond.
