KIDS COUNT Data Center - Annie E. Casey Foundation

Definition

A baby is classified as having a low birth weight if he or she is born weighing less than 2,500 grams (5 pounds, 8 ounces).

Data Source

Virginia Department of Health, Division of Health Statistics

Notes

The locality is determined by the mother's place of residence, not by the locality where the baby was born. Counts less than 10 are suppressed before 2021 and 20 or less onward but percent's are still reported. Use caution when interpreting percent's.
