Definition
A baby is classified as having a low birth weight if he or she is born weighing less than 2,500 grams (5 pounds, 8 ounces).

Notes
The locality is determined by the mother's place of residence, not by the locality where the baby was born. Counts less than 10 are suppressed but percents are still reported.
