Definition

Number of young population (dependent and delinquent) under age 20 who remain in state custody at the end of a given fiscal year (July-June).  Rate is per 1,000 population of same age group.

Data Source

The Tennessee Department of Children's Services supplied the number of cases. Population data were collected from the Division of Population Health Assessment, Tennessee Department of Health. The Kids Count division of the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth calculated the rates.
