Commitment To State Custody (1997–2023)

Definition

Number of young people (dependent and delinquent) under the age of 20 who are committed to state custody during a given fiscal year (July - June). Rate is per 1,000 population of same age group.

Data Source

Counts data provided by the Tennessee Department of Children's Services. Population data were from the Division of Population Health Assessment, Tennessee Department of Health. The Kids Count division of the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth organized the data and calculated rates.

2021 rates are based on 2020 population data.
