The IPL 2023 Player auction will feature a total of 405 players who are set to go under the hammer in Kochi on 23d December. The initial list had over 991 cricketers who had registered for the auction. However, the final list was trimmed to 405. There will be a total of 87 slots spread across ten franchises up for grabs out of which 30 are slotted for overseas players. Among the 405 players, 273 are Indian players, 132 are overseas players

Four-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings will enter the auction with a purse of Rs 20.45 crore. The defending champions have released some veteran stars including Dwayne Bravo and Robin Uthappa. While they retained the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Deepak Chahar and Devon Conway to get things done. The upcoming season might be the last for MS Dhoni as he will look to end his career on a high with another IPL trophy.

Delhi Capitals will enter the IPL 2023 auction with a purse amount of Rs 19.45 crore. Ahead of the mini-auction, DC released four players: KS Bharat, Tim Seifert, Ashwin Hebbar, and Mandeep Singh. They also traded Shardul Thakur to Kolkata Knight Riders and will look to enter the auction to sign some talented bowlers. Apart from that, the Capitals have not made any significant changes and have retained the majority of their roster. Pant will continue to lead the side for the next edition.

They made big moves in trading window to sign the likes of Shardul Thakur and Lockie Ferguson. Kolkata have kept their faith in their experienced campaigners Andre Russell and Sunil Narine as Shreyas Iyer will lead the side once again next season. It will be a tricky task for KKR to complete their squad as they have Rs 7.05 crore left in their purse.

Punjab Kings management has decided to go for a major overhaul of their side as they will once again spend big bucks in the next auction. Punjab spent a lot of money in the IPL 2022 mega auction but failed to qualify for playoffs. They have released their last season's captain Mayank Agarwal. They have appointed Shikhar Dhawan as their captain for IPL 2023 but they have to sign big names to get the job done with Rs 32.2 crore left in their purse.

The Lucknow Super Giants chose to release some key players ahead of the mini-auction on December 23 in Kochi. A total of seven players have been released including big names like Jason Holder, Dushmantha Chameera, Manish Pandey, and Evin Lewis. The franchise will have a healthy INR 23.35 crore in its coffers. At the auction, the team can also acquire the services of four overseas players.

The most notable decision of SRH was to release their long-term captain Kane Williamson.
