MLB Pitching Totals Data (1871 - 2021)

The dataset contains yearly pitching totals data for every MLB season.

The data was collected from Sports Reference then cleaned for data analysis.

Tabular data includes:

• total_pitchers: Number of pitchers used in games
• average_age: Average pitcher age
• runs_per_game: Runs scored per game
• ERA: Pitching ERA
• games_played: Games played
• games_finished: Games finished
• complete_game: Complete games
• shutouts: No runs allowed and complete game
• shutouts_team: No runs allowed in game
• saves
• innings_pitched
• hits: Hits allowed
• runs: Runs allowed
• earned_runs: Earned runs allowed
• home_runs: Home runs allowed
• walks: Walks allowed
• intentional_walks: Intentional walks allowed
• strikeouts
• hit_batter: Hit batter with pitch
• balks: An illegal act by a pitcher with a runner or runners on base entitling all batters to advance one base

• WHIP: (Walks + Hits) / Total Innings Pitched
• BA_bip: Batting Average on Balls in Play (BABIP)
