Dataset Description
The Skills and Competencies Taxonomy (SCT) streamlines the terminology of hundreds of occupational descriptors used in the labour market. Each descriptor is associated with one of the seven categories (skills, abilities, personal attributes, knowledge, interests, work context and work activities), which are then further divided into sub-categories.
The SCT is one of the two pillars of the Occupational and Skills Information System (OaSIS), which provides measurement indicators for most descriptors in the Taxonomy across more than 900 occupations.
To improve on the 2019 version, the 2022 SCT was updated with consideration of the content in OaSIS occupational profiles. Among the changes, the category of Personal Abilities and Attributes was split into two distinct categories: Abilities and Personal Attributes. Within the Knowledge category, subcategories and descriptors were redefined to better reflect both academic and technical knowledge and expertise. Finally, various descriptor labels and definitions across the SCT were refined to be more precise, to better capture the intended concepts, and to align with the evolving Canadian labour market.
