Dataset Description
The Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) dataset comes from the U.S. Census Bureau and is considered to be equal to or even better than the Official Poverty Measure, as a KPI. This dataset contains the SPM statewide over time and includes the number and percentage of people below poverty for select demographics.
Note: The Census Bureau did not release its standard 2020 ACS 1-year estimates because of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the Census Bureau released experimental estimates from the 1-year data. They are posted on the 2020 ACS 1-Year Experimental Data Release page. They will not be released on data.census.gov and are not included in this dataset.
Data are based on a sample and are subject to sampling variability. A margin of error is a measure of an estimate’s variability. The larger the margin of error in relation to the size of the estimate, the less reliable the estimate. This number when added to or subtracted from the estimate forms the 90 percent confidence interval. Margin of Error rates for each field in the dataset are attached in the metadata.
