Dataset Description

Ward precincts, which function as local election districts to determine the polling places for voters, based on their addresses. Precincts are based on U.S. Census Bureau blocks.

On January 10, 2023, the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners approved the following precinct change: Ward 24 precinct 16 was split in two, creating the precincts 16 and 20 seen in this dataset. That change is the only change in any precincts, in any wards, from the immediately preceding precinct set (which was approved in 2022). The number of precincts therefore increased from 1290 in the previous dataset, to 1291 in this dataset. All other precincts in all other wards retained their geometries and numbering.

The first election to which this dataset applies was the Feb 28, 2023 Municipal General election. The last election to which this dataset applies was the November 5, 2024 General election.

Neither this description nor the dataset should be relied upon in situations where legal precision is required.
