Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment

The SHLAA identifies sites across the borough that may have potential for future housing development. It forms part of the evidence base for the Local Plan and helps assess whether the council can meet identified housing needs.

The SHLAA does not allocate land for development. Instead, it provides an objective assessment of potential sites and their capacity to contribute to future housing supply. All sites included in the assessment are subject to further detailed appraisal as part of the statutory planning process.

The dataset is maintained by Wigan Council’s Planning and Housing teams and is updated periodically to reflect new submissions, completed developments, and changes to planning status.
