OECD dataset from agency OECD.CFE.EDS: DSD_REG_EDU@DF_ATTAIN (2000 - 2024)

This dataset provides statistics on educational attainement in large regions (TL2).

Data definition and source

Educational attainment is defined as the highest grade completed within the most advanced level attended in the educational system of the country where the education was received. Educational attainments are internationally standardised through the ISCED 2011 classification used to define the levels of education: ISCED 0-2 (elementary), 3-4 (secondary), 5-8 (tertiary).

Data are collected from Eurostat (reg_educ) for EU countries, and through delegates of the OECD Working Party on Territorial Indicators (WPTI) and the OECD Working Party on Education System Indicators (INES).

Definition of regions

Regions are subnational units below national boundaries. OECD countries have two regional levels: large regions (territorial level 2 or TL2) and small regions (territorial level 3 or TL3). The OECD regions are presented in the OECD Territorial grid (pdf) and in the OECD Territorial correspondence table (xlsx).
