Number and percent of adults age 18 to 64 at or below 138% of the federal poverty level that do not have health coverage through either private (e.g., private purchase or employer-sponsored) or public (e.g., Medicaid or CHIP) insurance according to the Small Area Health Insurance Estimates.
Small Area Health Insurance Estimates, U.S. Census Bureau
If Texas were to expand its Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act, adults age 18 to 64 living at or below 138% of the federal poverty level would become eligible for Medicaid. Currently, these adults are not eligible unless pregnant, disabled, or are parents receiving TANF (living at or below 12% of the federal poverty line).
