Definition

These data represent the number of people participating in FoodShare, known as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) at the federal level, and also called food stamps. Data are calendar year monthly averages from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Starting in 2021, state data reflects an unduplicated count of recipients. that move within the month to another county may be counted in both counties or Tribes for that month, but will only be counted once for state totals. This means that the sum of all counties may be higher than the unduplicated state totals. These data may have been influenced by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, starting in 2020.
