KIDS COUNT Data Center - Annie E. Casey Foundation

Definition

This indicator represents the number of children under the age of 19 who are enrolled in the Healthy Steps program in North Dakota, also know as the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or the Optional Children's Group. This program is intended to help meet the health care needs of children from families who have too much income to qualify for full Medicaid coverage, but not enough to afford private insurance.

The denominator for the percentage is the total child population age birth through 18 in respective geographic areas.

Data Source

Numerator: North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services

Denominator: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program

Notes

  •  Data for state fiscal year 2020 and 2021 is not reported for four counties in the Dakota Central area (Mercer, McLean, Oliver, and Sheridan), as these counties had data matched to county of service rather than county of residence. Data that was not matched to a county is not reported in the county, region, or statewide data.
