Definition

Cause-specific death rates are based on small data bases; caution must be exercised when attempting to draw conclusions. It is recommended to show the number of deaths with the rate.

Three-year aggregate number of deaths due to violent causes (accidents, suicide, and homicide) per 100,000 teens aged 15-19. Rates are based on mid-year population.

Violent deaths include accidents, suicides, and homicides. External causes of death with undetermined intent are not included.

Population Source:  National Center for Health Statistics, estimates from the Vintage postcensal series with an agreement with the U.S.Census Bureau.
