Head-to-Head College Basketball Team Stats

Context

As I was recently making my model to predict the outcomes of the 2021 March Madness tournament, I created this data set that has all the winners and losers from every March Madness game since 2013, and the season long stats for each team separated by the suffixes _higher and _lower, referring to each team's tournament seed.

Content

This data set is just one table that has one row for each tournament game played. Each row shows the basic information and season long stats of the higher and lower seeded teams, with one stat per column. There is also a column that shows whether the higher or lower seeded team won.

Most columns are pretty self explanatory (wins, games played, abbreviations, etc.) but for some more obscure acronyms I put further descriptions of each column below in the file information.

Thank you to Andrew Sundberg who created a data set with all the season long stats. I then used that and the Python module sportsreference to import the box scores and create this data set

Inspiration

Hopefully this can help more people predict March Madness games. Maybe one day someone will hit a perfect bracket.
