Exploring Gender Representation and Box Office Success in Films
Dataset Description
This dataset evaluates movies based on the Bechdel Test, a measure of gender representation that requires a film to feature at least two named women who talk to each other about something other than a man. It includes data on test outcomes, financial performance (domestic and international gross revenue), and adjusted budget figures. As highlighted in FiveThirtyEight’s analysis, films that pass the Bechdel Test often perform as well as or better financially than those that do not, challenging industry assumptions.
