Dataset Description

This data file contains the current year (December to April) snow pack level manual observations from across British Columbia. Manual snow survey sites are actively surveyed as part of the BC Snow Survey program. Manual snow surveys are conducted up to eight times per year around the beginning of every month from January through June with extra measurements at mid-month in May and June. Active and inactive snow course locations are available here. The majority of snow courses are located between 1000 and 2000 metres above sea level. Five or ten location points within a sampling area are chosen and referenced to trees etc. which will be visible when there is snow on the ground. At each sampling period, measurements are made at all of the location points at the sampling site -- the data point for that site is the average snow depth (cm) and water equivalent (mm) of the measured location points. Other attributes in the data set include: site number, survey period, elevation (m) and percent of normal. Archived snow pack level manual observations are available here. Data can be directly accessed via the Real-Time Water tool and the Snow Stations Interactive Map.
