About this Dataset

PACN Weather Monitoring Dataset

In collaboration with the National Park Service (NPS) Pacific Island Network (PACN) Inventory and Monitoring Program (I&M), the Western Regional Climate Center (WRCC) installed a network of long-term weather/climate monitoring stations across the PACN I&M network. In addition to deployment of the monitoring network, the WRCC carried out the following in accordance with the task agreement: data telemetry and data management procedures; providing near real-time data access to the public via the Internet; training NPS staff on maintenance and operational procedures; field maintenance; technical consultations; and summarization of station data for annual reporting. The network will provide critical baseline weather and climate data to meet PACN monitoring objectives to characterize climatic change/variability and to better understand patterns associated with climatic extremes, such as, drought, extreme precipitation events, and tropical cyclone activity.
