About this Dataset

Late Night Aircraft Departures

A. SUMMARY This dataset consists of late-night flights departing between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. It serves to quantify, measure, and report on how well airlines use over-water routing established by the Federal Aviation Administration and reduce aircraft overflying the San Francisco Peninsula to help mitigate noise. This information is the data source used to produce a one-page report, “NIITE to GOBBS 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.” on page 5 of the monthly Airport Director’s Report. This report is available online at https://www.flysfo.com/about/community-noise/noise-office/reports/airport-directors-report B. HOW TO USE THIS DATASET It is important to note that not all flight records will have measurement details associated with the two navigation waypoints used in this analysis because not all flights will use them. However, there will be flights that flew by both navigation waypoints, so those respective measurement details are provided. C. UPDATE PROCESS Data is available starting in September 2022 and will be updated on a monthly basis. Please contact the Noise Abatement Office at NoiseAbatementOffice@flysfo.com for any questions regarding this data. Date created: May 30, 2023
