Definition

Children in families receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. SNAP provides federal food subsidies to reduce hunger among eligible individuals and families with children experiencing unemployment, disability, reduced work hours, or other causes of income insecurity. Percentages represent proportion of children ages birth to 18 receiving benefits.

Notes

Data reported for St. Thomas also include St. John.

NOTE:  In the absence of a VICS report for 2011, child population data for 2011 (used to calculate rates of children receiving benefits) is from the U.S. Census for the year 2010.
