Children in poverty is the percentage of children under age 18 who are living in households with incomes below the poverty threshold, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. Poverty is determined based on income received during the year prior to the Census.
Population Reference Bureau analysis of data from the 5-year American Community Survey.
*The Margin of Error around the estimate is greater than or equal to five percentage points.
The American Community Survey is a sample survey, and therefore the number and percentage of children living in poverty provided are estimates. The reliability of estimates vary
by community. In general estimates for small communities are not as
reliable as estimates for larger communities.
