Definition

The percentage of children under age 18 who live in families headed by a person - male or female - without a spouse present in the home.

U.S. Bureau of the Census, 1990, 2000, and 2010 Census of the Population.

Notes

The data includes "own children" which is defined as never-married children under age 18 who are related to the family by birth, marriage or adoption.
