Definition

This indicator reports on the number and percent of households with children under 18 reporting receipt of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance benefits (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) by family type. Types of families displayed in this indicator are: Female householder, no spouse present (Single Mother), Male Householder, no spouse present (Single Father), Married Couple families, and all families with children under 18 present.

SNAP provides a monthly benefit to eligible households enrolled in the program, enabling participants to purchase food items from authorized vendors.
