Definition

Per pupil expenditure is based on total Operating Expenditures and Average Daily Attendance (ADA) and/or total enrollment. Operating expenditures include current expenditures per LEA financial report (excluding student body education, adult education); U.S.D.A. commodity value; and state level program and administrative expenses. Some examples are instructional materials, maintenance, and transportation. Expenditures are reported in constant dollars (to respective school year), based on the Consumer Price Index.
