POLYMOD Social Contacts Data
Detailed Social Contact Characteristics of 2008 Participants
By [source]
About this dataset
This dataset is part of the POLYMOD study which offers in-depth insight into the social contacts of participants. It offers a broad range of characteristics regarding individual participants and their households, such as age, gender, occupation, nationality and educational background. In addition to this it captures detailed information on the type and degree of physical contact made by each participant during their interactions with others. Also included are any diary entries or questionnaire responses that provide extra detail on where and with whom these interactions occurred. With its comprehensive breakdown, this dataset provides an invaluable resource for understanding social contact behaviour and how individuals go about forming relationships with those around them

How to use the dataset
This dataset provides information on the social contacts of participants in the POLYMOD study conducted in 2008. It includes individual characteristics of each participant, such as age, gender, occupation, and educational background as well as details regarding household composition. In addition, it contains information related to the contacts made by these individuals during their study participation. The dataset also involves data from diaries and questionnaires which provide additional insight into who the contacts were with (such as their age and gender) and where the contacts were made (including degree of physical contact).
In order to utilize this dataset effectively:
- Review all available columns: As mentioned above, this dataset offers a variety of types of data that can be used to analyze relationships between participants and their social contacts. It is important to become familiar with different columns so that you can gain an understanding of what type of data is available and how it can be applied in your analysis.
- Understand the study methods used: To fully understand what types of social contact activities are captured by this dataset it is essential to become familiar with POLYMOD’s research methodologies employed during their 2008 study including mechanisms such as diary keeping used by participants to record their daily activities/contact interactions 3 Identify clear objectives for your analysis: Once you have reviewed all applicable columns/data points within this dataset consider your research questions or objectives at hand prior making any decisions on variables that should be included or excluded from any analyses 4 Develop an appropriate methodology for analysis: A valid approach must be developed for how best to analyze relevant variables within this dataset based upon stated objectives Before beginning pre-specified models must also take into account potential confounding factors consideration should always be making sure not only adequate power but accuracy given context provided
Research Ideas
- Analyzing social contact patterns based on individual and household characteristics such as age, gender, occupation, nationality, education level, and other factors.
- Investigating the impact of different factors (e.g. geographical location) on the degree of physical contact between participants in different locations.
- Examining how problems encountered during the study (e.g missing contacts) affected participants' ability to meet their social contact goals over time and how this can inform future interventions to increase successful contacts outcomes for similar studies in the future
