Chandrayaan-3 is the third lunar mission of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It was launched on 14 July 2023 and successfully soft-landed on the Moon's south pole on 23 August 2023.
The mission's main objectives are to:
- Demonstrate a safe and soft landing on the lunar surface in the south pole region.
- Demonstrate rover roving on the Moon.
- Conduct in-situ scientific experiments.
The Chandrayaan-3 lander is called Vikram, and the rover is called Pragyan. The lander is equipped with a variety of instruments, including a camera, a spectrometer, and a magnetometer. The rover is designed to travel up to 500 meters on the lunar surface.
