CHAS 2005-2007 ACS data for Nevada

Dataset Description

HUD's Comprehensive Housing Affordability Strategy (CHAS) data for the 2005-2007 ACS 3-year period, for Nevada. This dataset provides counts of households with various housing problems and needs broken down by household income levels relative to HUD Area Median Family Income (HAMFI), tenure, race/ethnicity, and household type.

The data include multiple geographic summary levels including state (040), county (050), county subdivision/MCD (060), place (155/160), consolidated city (170), and Census Tract (080).

Note: These data use the older CHAS format (pre-2009 ACS releases) and differ in structure from the more recent 2009+ CHAS releases. The data were released in December 2009 based on the 2005-2007 ACS 3-year estimates.

Key definitions:

  • Housing problems: Lacking complete kitchen/plumbing, overcrowded (>1 person/room), or cost burdened (housing costs > 30% of income).
  • Cost burden: Monthly housing costs exceeding 30% of monthly income.
  • HAMFI: HUD Area Median Family Income — income limits used for HUD programs.
  • Income categories: Extremely low (≤30% HAMFI), very low (30–50% HAMFI), low (50–80% HAMFI), moderate (80–100% HAMFI).
