Provincially significant peatlands are a type of protected area designation under The Peatlands Stewardship Act and The Provincially Significant Regulation. Peatlands designated as provincially significant are legally protected from resource development activities, including peat harvesting, mining, hydro-electric development, logging, and agricultural activities.
