Dataset Description
The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. The Extent of Canada's wetlands indicator is a measure of the extent of Canadian wetlands and provides a baseline from which it will be possible to measure change. Wetlands are one of Earth's most productive ecosystems, providing numerous ecosystem services (such as carbon storage) and supporting a disproportionately high number of species, including species at risk and significant numbers of migratory birds, fish, amphibians, and a wide diversity of plants. Information is provided to Canadians in a number of formats including: static and interactive maps, charts and graphs, HTML and CSV data tables and downloadable reports. See the supplementary documentation for the data sources and details on how the data were collected and how the indicator was calculated.
