Dataset Description

The objective of this table is to represent the main conservation challenges faced by these species. As a result, it is not intended to be comprehensive and does not include threats that are unlikely or that affect species marginally.

The summary table “MenacesEspèce.xlsx” refers to the Standardized Classification of Threats Affecting Biodiversity (MFFP, 2021) and includes the list of the main threats affecting wildlife species monitored by the Quebec Natural Heritage Data Center (CDPNQ).

The table highlights the severity of threats affecting species, i.e. the intensity of the local population decline anticipated in the area affected by the threat over a period of ten years or over the duration equivalent to three successive generations for this species (depending on the longest value) (MFFP, 2021). Severity is divided into five values:

  • Negligible (decline < 1%)
  • Slight (decline of 1 to 10%)
  • Moderate (decline of 11 to 30%)
  • Serious (31 to 70% decline)
  • Extreme (71 to 100% decline)

Severity values were established by experts in each taxon and peer-reviewed. The table currently includes 130 threats and 91 wildlife species. By searching in a column, you get a list of the main threats affecting a species. By searching in one line, you get a list of species affected by a threat.
