Dataset Description

Subalpine wildflower meadows occur at high elevations in mountainous environments, and are characterized by spectacularly diverse and showy wildflower meadows interspersed with stands of subalpine tree species. The subalpine wildflower meadows on the summit of Mount Revelstoke and Glacier are world renowned for their beautiful floral displays and ecological importance. However, the meadows are at risk of changing due to climate change and human influences.
In 1974, meadow communities on the summit area of Mount Revelstoke were documented. This study identified eight meadow communities across the summit area of the park. Vegetation surveys were conducted in 5m x 9m macroplots. Twenty five subplots (20cm x 50cm) were randomly sampled within each macroplot to provide an overall mean vascular plant cover. If a species occurred in one or more of the subplots, the frequency was indicated as the percent of subplots that contained that species.
