Dataset Description

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing makes available, for each municipality, the information sent by the presidents of elections during the 2005, 2009, 2013, 2013, 2013, 2017 and 2021 general elections.

The data set specific to each election year includes a description of the variables, including:

  • The municipality;
  • The electoral district or district, when the territory of the municipality is divided for electoral purposes;
  • The elective position;
  • The candidate.

Departmental Responsibility

The data results from the entry by the electoral officers of the candidates and the electoral results into a computer application made available to them by the Ministry.

Under the Act on Elections and Referendums in Municipalities (LERM), the electoral officer must give a public notice identifying the candidate elected for each position (LERM, art. 260): entering candidates and results into the computer application cannot replace this responsibility.

In addition, the legal responsibility for maintaining electoral results belongs, where appropriate, to the clerk or secretary-treasurer (LERM, art. 658.1): the Ministry assumes no responsibility in this area.

For these reasons, the data included in these data sets is provided for information purposes only and does not replace these obligations of the electoral officer. In the event of a discrepancy between these data and those kept by the municipality, those of the municipality prevail.
