Dataset Description

The government, through its Minister of Culture and Communications, can classify a heritage asset, that is to say a building, a site, a document, an object or a heritage complex.

The classification makes it possible to recognize the heritage value of the property, to ensure its protection, and to promote its knowledge and its transmission to future generations.¹

The Ministry of Culture and Communications makes available some of its data on heritage sites classified by the Minister (formerly historic sites and archaeological sites classified or recognized). These elements of real estate heritage are part of the heritage protected under the Cultural Heritage Act (L.R.Q., c. 21) and are registered in the Quebec Cultural Heritage Register.

These elements and all related information can be found in the Répertoire du Patrimoine Culturel du Québec. www.patrimoine-cultur.gouv.qc.ca

Note that each of the classified heritage sites is represented by a polygon delimiting its perimeter. A version represented in the form of points locating the site on the territory is also available.

These locations are provided for information purposes only and, therefore, have no legal effect. Refer to the Cultural Heritage Register, maintained at the Ministry by the Registrar of Cultural Heritage, for legal information.
